Global Shipping Assessment

Analysis of target countries against print-on-demand logistics realities — identifying where delivery is straightforward, where it carries risk, and where it should be restricted or surcharged.

Prepared by Carlos Valmont · September 2026 · Based on Printful & Printify standard shipping network
The target country list provided by Chestertons Global includes several markets where print-on-demand delivery is unreliable, prohibitively expensive, or legally restricted. This is not a reason to exclude these markets permanently — but they require either a shipping surcharge policy, a restricted product catalogue, or a manual review process before orders are fulfilled. The table below details each case.
Do not ship / suspend at launch
Ship with caution — surcharge or restrict products
Recommended approach: At launch, restrict checkout to Green and Blue tier countries only (see tab 2). Flag tier Red as unavailable. Flag tier Orange as "available on request" with a manual review step or an automatic shipping surcharge built into the BigCommerce checkout rules.
Code Country Risk level Delivery issue Recommendation
High risk — suspend at launch
IQ Iraq ● Do not ship No Printful/Printify hub anywhere near the region. Customs clearance is unpredictable — textiles and printed goods are frequently held or rejected. Average transit time exceeds 4–6 weeks with standard carriers. Return logistics are near-impossible. Disable at launch. Review after 12 months if Chestertons has a specific B2B client there with managed logistics.
MN Mongolia ● Do not ship Landlocked country with very limited international parcel infrastructure. Neither Printful nor Printify list Mongolia as a reliably serviceable destination. Delivery failures are common and returns are not feasible. Disable at launch. No strategic priority identified for this market.
ME Montenegro ● Do not ship Not an EU member — Printful's EU hub does not deliver duty-free here. Parcels are subject to separate customs clearance with inconsistent timelines. The EU hub rate does not apply; shipments route via a slower and more expensive path. Disable at launch unless Printify has a specific provider that routes through Serbia effectively. Verify before enabling.
GI Gibraltar ● Do not ship British Overseas Territory, not part of the EU customs union. Despite its location, it is treated as a non-EU, non-UK standard destination by most carriers. Very low population (~35,000) makes it low-priority commercially. Disable at launch. Negligible market size does not justify the operational complexity.
Medium risk — ship with surcharge or product restrictions
EG Egypt ● Caution Egyptian customs apply strict inspections to textile imports. Branded merchandise and printed goods are frequently flagged for additional duties (15–30% import tax depending on product category). Delivery times are inconsistent — 2 to 6 weeks. Returns are not supported by either provider. Allow but restrict to non-textile products at launch (e.g. accessories, stationery). Apply a shipping surcharge of AED 25–40 minimum. Mark as 4–6 week estimated delivery.
MA Morocco ● Caution Customs duties on textiles entering Morocco are among the highest in the MENA region (up to 40% on some categories). Delays at Casablanca customs are well-documented. Return rates are high and reverse logistics are not supported by Printful or Printify. Restrict to Phase 2+ only. Apply shipping surcharge. Consider informing customers of potential customs duties at checkout (legal requirement in some jurisdictions).
IN India ● Caution Printful does ship to India, but textile imports attract 20–30% customs duty. This is often unexpected by customers and creates disputes and chargebacks. Delivery is functional (10–18 days from EU or US hub) but the duties significantly compress margin or erode customer satisfaction. Enable but add a prominent customs duty disclaimer at checkout. Price products to absorb at least partial duty or offer DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) pricing via Printful's Global Commerce option.
MY Malaysia ● Caution Printful ships to Malaysia but routes from the US hub, resulting in 12–20 day delivery windows and relatively high shipping costs ($12–18 for apparel). Customs duties on branded goods vary by product type. Lower risk than Egypt or Morocco but worth monitoring. Enable with standard international pricing. Monitor return and dispute rate in the first quarter post-launch.
SA Saudi Arabia ● Caution Printful does deliver to Saudi Arabia, typically routing through the UAE or EU hub. Delivery is generally reliable (7–14 days) but design content must comply with Saudi customs regulations — certain imagery, slogans, and graphic designs may be flagged. Branded real estate merchandise is low-risk from a content perspective. Enable. Apply a modest shipping surcharge. Review all artwork for compliance before enabling Saudi delivery. Priority for Chestertons given their regional presence.
BH Bahrain ● Caution Small GCC market. Printful does not have a direct hub — shipments route from UAE or EU, adding cost and time. Duty rates are relatively low (GCC standard 5%) but the small addressable market limits commercial upside. Enable with GCC shipping surcharge. Group with Saudi Arabia and UAE for regional pricing strategy.
Island markets — structural delivery challenges
AG BB GD VC LC Caribbean Islands
Antigua, Barbados, Grenada, St. Vincent, St. Lucia
● Caution Small island nations with limited carrier networks. Printful ships to these destinations but via DHL/FedEx international at premium rates ($18–35 for apparel). Delivery times are 7–21 days with significant variance. Customs duties apply separately in each territory. Return logistics are not supported. Enable but apply a Caribbean surcharge of AED 40–60 at checkout. Restrict to lightweight, non-fragile products only (apparel, accessories — no framed prints or ceramic items).
BM Bermuda ● Caution British Overseas Territory, not part of the UK customs area. Import duties apply (22–25% on most goods). Carrier options are limited. Very small population (~65,000) with limited commercial upside for a real estate brand's merch store. Consider disabling at launch. If enabled, apply a surcharge and customs duty notice at checkout.
KY Cayman Islands ● Caution British Overseas Territory with a separate customs jurisdiction. Interestingly, the Cayman Islands have no import duty on most goods (0% tariff), but carrier surcharges to the islands are significant. Chestertons has a known client base there — may justify enabling despite the logistics cost. Enable given Chestertons' Cayman client base. Apply a carrier surcharge of AED 50+. Restrict to lightweight products.
Note on returns: Print-on-demand products are personalised items. Under EU consumer law (and most jurisdictions), personalised goods are exempt from standard 14-day return rights. The Returns & Refund Policy drafted for this project reflects this. However, in high-risk shipping markets, the likelihood of carrier damage is higher — and damage claims are the store's responsibility regardless of jurisdiction. This is the primary financial exposure in Tier Orange markets, not customs duties per se.
The following countries from the Chestertons target list operate within or adjacent to Printful and Printify's primary fulfilment hubs. Delivery is reliable, customs duties are either zero or minimal, and return logistics are supported. These markets should be fully enabled at launch with standard shipping rates.
Printful
Operates hubs in Latvia (EU), Birmingham (UK), Dallas & Charlotte (US), and Toronto (CA). EU orders from the Latvia hub clear EU customs duty-free. UK orders fulfil from Birmingham, post-Brexit rules apply but are well-established. Typically 3–7 business days to most Tier 1 markets.
Printify
Network of 80+ providers across EU, UK, US, and Australia. Best competitive pricing on standard products. Quality varies by provider — requires test order validation per product. Recommended as backup/failover for Printful; some niche products only available here.
Recommendation: Enable all countries below at launch with no additional surcharge or restriction. These are the markets where the POD model performs as designed — reliable delivery, predictable cost, and no customs friction. They represent the core addressable market for Chestertons Global's merch store.

Express options are available at additional cost in all markets above and can be surfaced as an upgrade at checkout.

On Printify as backup: For every product category, a Printify provider should be identified and tested as a fulfilment backup. If Printful experiences stock outages (most common on embroidery-intensive products), the Printify fallback ensures continuity of service in all smooth-tier markets.
